Happy Saturday Sweet Peeps!!!
The weekend is here and it’s a beautiful morning up on the hill!
So yesterday I made a DIY video outside on my porch. I spent most the morning painting and preparing for the video….it was so much fun!
Several times a month I host DIY pallet painting parties at my home. One of the gals that has come out to a party, and works at my son’s school, asked me to paint a “parking” sign for my son’s teacher’s baby shower…wow that was a mouthful…hope you got all that!
She supplied the piece of barn wood and I did the rest.
I used my new favorite product called Poppies Paint Powder. This stuff is magical I’m telling you! It comes in a cute little brown box, with mixing directions on the back. The paint powder can be mixed with any latex water based paint.
About a month ago Lowes ran a sample paint special for $ .99/8oz. on Sherwin Williams, so I stocked up…..for real!
I whipped up a batch of the chalk paint using about 4 oz. of the navajo white paint, 1/8 C. of paint powder and 1 TBL of warm water. What creamy goodness!!!
Using my handy Cricut machine, I cut the letters for the word “PARKING” and an arrow. After I sprayed the back of the letters with repositionable adhesive, I arranged them and the arrow on the sign.
Next, I used a white paint pen to outline the letters then removed the letters, so that I could fill in them with the chalk paint I mixed up.
I chose to do the lettering this way because it provided more control and less bleeding than under a regular stencil.
Painting this type of detail on weathered barn wood is not for the perfectionist. The ridges in the wood make it very difficult to have crisp straight lines.
After I filled in the letters and it dried, I applied a clear wax and let that set for about 30 minutes.
Once it dried, then I grabbed my car waxer….yep a car waxer.
My little secret tip to use on furniture or signs that I’ve applied wax on is to use a small handheld car waxer buffer thingy-ma-jig..like this for $34.74…

There you have it! The completed sign….I love how it turned out.
Hope you’re weekend is a warm, sunny one and may you paint something fun this weekend!
