Today, marriages are on my heart!
I think so often we look at other marriages and begin to compare ours to others.
We see other couples laughing, going places or doing special things and wish our spouse would do those things, or we secretly we become jealous.
We don’t like to use that word very often…”jealous”, but yes even christians feel jealous, or envious.
But today, can I tell you that, you may not know or see that marriage behind the scenes.
You may not know the struggles that they have been through, or maybe they’re putting up their own smoke-screen.
We can’t look over the fence and think that what someone else has is better than ours and desire it.
I’m convinced that if we spend our time and energy investing in our own marriages, then we won’t have time to gaze at the grass on the other side of
the fence. Marriage takes work! It is not 50/50, but rather 100/100.
Gazing and daydreaming about another person’s marriage will cause you to become side-tracked, complacent and discontent.
No marriage is perfect and if someone says theirs is, they’re lying!
Last evening, my husband and I took our youngest son to an indoor bounce place to burn some energy.
While he was playing we played air-hockey and acted like a couple of teenagers. That is our favorite game and I end up snorting, laughing and
hollering at levels of embarrassment that you can’t even imagine…my poor hubby!
This isn’t a show or a smoke-screen to behind the scene problems…we love to play games, sit outside on the porch and talk, go out to dinner…the list
goes on. My point is this, if someone were to see us at home interacting or out and about they would think what a perfect marriage. It’s not!
BUT it is pretty darn close and only because of Jesus!
What you don’t know or see is the struggles we have had, and just how close to divorce we were.
BUT GOD!!!!
God gave us a new perspective…..it’s called work and understanding.
We both make the choice DAILY to work and invest in our marriage.
Through our chapel on post, we have a marriage ministry, not because we think we have all the answers but because we want to give others tools to use as an investment in their own marriages.
On one of our marriage nights, we used a sports theme and came up with 4 tools to use.
1. The Playbook – Communicate, communicate, communicate! A team has a language unique to the team.
2. The Team Roster – Only the team players are allowed on the field, and in the locker room. Don’t allow others to have a say or be involved in your marriage.
3. The Quarterback – There is only one quarterback on the field and he (hubby) leads the team. Support your quarterback!
4. Score! – The most important object of the game! Don’t neglect this! He needs it, you need it!
These are not the be all/end all tools but when you establish these, it will steer you in the right direction.
Remember every team has an owner….GOD!
So today, I want to encourage you to begin investing in your marriage. Make it fun!
Date again and put one another first!
Don’t look over the fence and want what you see, instead focus on your own backyard and make it a place that you love to be!
Have a blessed day and go invest in your marriage!
